{"id":70780,"date":"2022-09-09T16:09:29","date_gmt":"2022-09-09T20:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/courses.ideate.cmu.edu\/15-104\/f2022\/?p=70780"},"modified":"2022-09-09T16:09:29","modified_gmt":"2022-09-09T20:09:29","slug":"blog-01-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/courses.ideate.cmu.edu\/15-104\/f2022\/2022\/09\/09\/blog-01-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Blog 01"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Neri Oxman &ndash; architect, artist, professor &ndash; focuses on work that<br>combines design, biology, computing, and materials engineering.<br>Of her many projects, all pushing the boundaries of biology and<br>art, I have always been particularly fascinated by<br>Silk Pavilions I and II &ndash; a series of silkworm spun installations<br>that, beyond their visual impact, explore sustainable methods of<br>spinning, weaving, and making silk without the use of cocoons.<br>Silk Pavilion I, designed by her research team<br>(and 6500 live silkworms) was constructed over a period of<br>three weeks, all with the help of a robotic loom-like jig and<br>a CNC machine to make the 26 polygonal panels as a base structure<br>for the silkworms to begin laying their silk upon.
