Interaction & Expression
Using the Pausch Bridge Lighting

Spring 2025

Project Description:

Students will be divided into teams across disciplines.  Each team will develop and implement a lighting idea for the Pausch Bridge that explores light as a visual expression of art.  The final lighting design will be a self-contained programmed show.

Project Goals:

  • Light as narrative – Understand the process of designing time-based lighting visual narratives
  • Interpretation of light – Understand how to translate abstract concepts into specific images of light
  • Light as temporal medium – Understand how time and motion can influence the meaning of a visual message

Project Parameters:

  • The length of the show should be no more than 15 minutes
  • Every member of the group should have equal participation
  • You will have free choice of theme
  • Focus should be given to the design first before deciding on programming methods

Project Deliverables and Deadlines:

Week 3 (March 24)

All groups should present a well thought out concept for the project with a storyboard of visual research and/or sketches depicting each major design idea for the show.

Week 6 (April 14)
