Notes for 2025-09-11.

New Assignments

  1. New assignment, due by start of class on Tuesday: each working group should meet once and produce a set of sketches exploring possible proof-of-concept tests. Please submit to Assignment 4 Shared Folder

  2. Please also install Python 3 with OpenCV on your own laptop. General directions for either macOS or Windows are located on Python 3 Installation. The critical package is opencv-python, not all the others listed are necessary.

Administrative

Medium-term objectives:

  • week 3: form tentative working teams

  • week 4: develop low-fidelity proof-of-concept test

  • week 5: design a medium-fidelity implementation

  • week 6:

  • week 7: field trials to evaluate concept

The first FriDeATe (social free food) event will be Friday, Sep 12 5-6PM in the basement open area.

Agenda

  1. Two top-level purposes to keep in mind:

    • finding common project themes around which to form several working teams

    • identifying technical needs around which to formulate tutorials

  2. Review the single-slide project pitches (Assignment 3 Shared Folder). Can we identify some common themes?

    • interaction context (location, environment, audience)

    • personality? behavior?

    • locus of agency?

    • locus of deception?

    • technical implementation (form, sensing, actuation, behavior)

  3. general discussion

  4. ad hoc vision demonstrations

  5. sensor discussion

  6. technical commentary

  7. tentative working group formation
