The gathering method I used for this assignment is similar to the one I used in class – alternating curves, except this one runs from the diagonal ends. I wanted the fabric to slide along the rod, so I tightened the opposite ends of the two strings on the rod and wrapped the other two ends of the strings on the capstan, that way this linear motion can be completed using just one motor. The experiment was successful, and the motion of the fabric almost felt like there’s a push and pull relationship between two forces. I also added weight to the bottom of the fabric to make sure it doesn’t flip over.
The challenge or failure I faced during this experimentation was that I tried to turn off the damping but it failed to do so even when the input says zero. Otherwise, this experiment was pretty successful.
