Drawing inspiration from rope-climbing activities seen in gym classes
Fabric would appear to be climbing a rope

There will be several fabrics attached to ropes above performers that could race as the music frequency or speed changes.

In terms of the kinds of roles that each person will play, Martha, as a computer science major, would assume a more software-oriented role, while Stephanie, as an architecture major, has more experience with fabrication. That said, both people will be heavily involved in all parts of the project.

First, we’d probably be looking to experiment with materials that best fit the movement we’re trying to achieve, and from there refine the movement itself. We’d build this movement in a modular way (for both software and rigging) in order to ease the process of applying our initial experiments to a larger format. After achieving a larger format, time permitting, we’d add final touches to software to allow for more behaviors during a performance.

The following materials would be required for our process, from experimentation to the final performance:

  • Ropes
  • different colors of dye
  • different texture fabrics
