Mar 9, 2021, 10:30AM to 12:20PM (<a href=\"https:\/\/courses.ideate.cmu.edu\/16-376\/s2021\/zoom-meeting\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"3174\">Zoom<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today&#8217;s class is primarily devoted to hands-on learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Warm-up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Brief check-in. <\/li><li>Any questions?<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2>Announcements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sewing Machine Return Requests from IDeATe staff:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>do not leave unprotected needles and pins floating around in the case or in the case pouches.&nbsp; Use the included small, plastic tube for spare sewing machine needles.&nbsp; Pins and hand sewing needles should not be returned with sewing machines.&nbsp;<\/li><li>wind up the foot pedal cord and strap it together with the attached velcro in the same way as when the machine is received from us.<\/li><li>unspool small amounts of thread from bobbins to help keep them from becoming a tangled mass of thread inside of the pouch.&nbsp;<\/li><li>whenever possible, protect spool pins by either retracting them (Brother) or detaching and storing in the pouch (Janome).<\/li><li>be upfront about any issues or breakage with the machine.&nbsp; Unless it\u2019s a clear case of abuse, students won\u2019t be charged for repairs.&nbsp; We just don\u2019t want a broken machine going back out.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2>Assignment 9 Review<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s take no more than ten minutes to discuss your progress on Assignment 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>What features and techniques did you try out?<\/li><li>Did you get stuck trying to figure anything out?<\/li><li>What was the most surprising discovery?<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2>In-Class Activities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/courses.ideate.cmu.edu\/16-376\/s2021\/ref\/text\/code\/cpb-ticklish.html\">Reactive Behavior Code Example. <\/a> We&#8217;ll walk through the sample all together as a suggested starting point for the next assignment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then we will focus on combining sewing with our pneumatic structures. to do this, we will separate into two groups: Beginner and Advanced. At the end of class we will come together to share out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Beginner group<\/strong> will continue with learning sewing skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Advanced group<\/strong> will experiment with making samples that extend the capabilities of the pneumatic structures. Ideas for experimentation include: sewing in boning-like elements, using gravity in different ways, securing different sides of the structure.
