The signal I chose to convolve was a recording from Hobo Johnson’s TinyDesk concert — the particular clip is transcribed, “You’ll close your eyes, but forever hear the sound, and boy, it’s tough, ’cause that’s the sound of people falling out of love.”

Uplifting.

The four impulse responses I used are as follows:
– a balloon pop, recorded in a hallway on Doherty Level A
– a balloon pop, recorded in a raquetball court in the UC
– the first note of Frank Ocean’s Nikes (obtained very legally)
– Masego singing “tadow” (also obtained very legally)

After splitting each sound on Audacity, I ran the signal through the provided Max patch.

Rykim – Assignment 2: playboi carti’s cult following convened in the studio https://courses.ideate.cmu.edu/18-090/f2019/2019/09/18/rykim-assignment-2-playboi-cartis-cult-following-convened-in-the-studio/ Wed, 18 Sep 2019 12:57:26 +0000 https://courses.ideate.cmu.edu/18-090/f2019/?p=2955

Location by Playboi Carti is one of my favorite songs (yes, I realize it holds no actual substance; I love its dream-like intro, and the cultural impact of his baby voice…iconic). He’s garnered a pretty loyal following, and to convey this, I played around with tapin/tapout and feedback to create a sort of nightmarish effect on the audio.

The multiplier was 0.5 and I set feedback to -4.0 dB to accomplish this effect.

Rykim – Assignment 1: when random men on the street tell you to smile https://courses.ideate.cmu.edu/18-090/f2019/2019/09/04/rykim-assignment-1-when-random-men-on-the-street-tell-you-to-smile/ Wed, 04 Sep 2019 12:11:40 +0000 https://courses.ideate.cmu.edu/18-090/f2019/?p=2854

For this project, the system I utilized was Facetune, a face-editing application. In particular, I used the smile feature, applying these edits to a newly-edited image until my face was wholly undetectable about 55 times later.
