“The Egg” by Charlotte Stiles (2014)

To tell a transcendental story I used puppets. When making art about death and afterlife I wanted to respect that everyone has their own ideas and personal beliefs that they would cast on the story. When using puppets I remove the responsibility from myself or actors to be sensitive to those beliefs, a puppet is much more neutral than a person would be.

I controlled my puppets with magnets. I was influenced by traditional shadow puppetry that uses sticks to control the limbs, but instead of sticks I stuck magnets to the back of my laser-cut characters and controlled them by using other magnets behind the “stage” and filmed from above. and since the final product was a video I didn’t have to deal with any real time performance complexes. The magic of editing helped me out. Cheap and fast one person production.

I also know how to use a CNC router, since this post is about skills I can offer.
