Arnaud Pottier was invited by The Mirage Festival to “bring alive” three sculptures in The Fine-Arts Museum of Lyon. He projects eye movements and human expressions on the faces of these centuries year old sculptures, creating a very bizarre atmosphere.

This was a projection mapping onto Prague’s complex astronomical clock during it’s 600th year anniversary. The group behind this piece, INITI, is an international collective of media designers, musicians, and artists that “focus on interactive site-specific art.”

“Two Sides of Every Story” by Michael Snow (1974)

For this exhibition, Michael Snow projected two films on opposite sides of a hanging metal plate. Each side showed a perspective of two opposite camera men where they were filming a woman walking and moving between them.

“Arbitrary Image Tracking for Robotics in Dance” by Yousuf Soliman (2014)

For this project I worked on developing computer vision algorithms that can track any arbitrary object movement in a video. I worked on a project in San Diego where we had a robotics + dance show where the robot was autonomously moving by tracking the position of an initial dancer. The dancers would move around the robot as well as on top of it as it followed the initial actor.

“Extra-Terrestrial” by UP Projects (2015)

Extra-Terrestrial is “an Intergalactic programme of films and events across London’s waterways!” The group UP built a floating cinema in the form of a boat that goes around London’s river system projecting both onto the boat, and outside of it. They host shows and events where the boat parks for some amount of time. Here the audience can interact and each individual can change the “space colony” that has already been created and morphed throughout this boat’s passage. Each change sticks past that individual night and changes the central story line that this sci-fi story is based on.

“Empire State Kali” by Android Jones (2015)

Director Louie Psihoyos and visual artist Travis Threlkel created a documentary titled Racing Extinction where they showed the issues of the mass extinction of many different species. Andrew “Android” Jones worked on creating a series of video projection mappings that showed many of these different animals morphing together along with his own art. He projected his work on the Empire State Building on August 1, 2015 in an attempt to get the idea of this documentary to a very large audience. Many of his other works are interactive projection mappings where the collective movement of the audience determines the animations and audio.

“Enter the Wasteland” by Uber and Warner Bros. (2015)

Mad Max is an action based, vehicle combat, video game set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The game was designed in the universe of the Mad Max films, but besides that it has no connection to the films. Uber ran a promotion in downtown Seattle where people requesting rides can be picked up in a car straight out of the Mad Max video game. The drivers are actors in full costume, bringing this video game’s universe to reality. The cars are extremely well built, and, according to many Twitter posts online, the drivers are entertaining and seem to be pulled right out of the video game due to their vernacular and personalities. Uber gives all riders who get picked up in these Mad Max cars a free ride, saying that “Your dollars are worthless in the Wasteland. Payment shall not be required.”
