“If I Felt Alone, I Was Close: Part III” by Audra Wist (2012)

“If I Felt Alone, I Was Close: Part III” (2012) is the third in a series of three documented performances by Audra Wist. The series consists of the artist performing lip syncs to songs from her adolescence, and always in the midst of an ambivalent audience, either unaware of or indifferent to her antics. She alternately flails, croons, and vamps for the camera. She shot and performed this final installment in her alma mater’s high school gym while the basketball team held its regular practice. She enlists her non-audience as unwitting backup dancers for her one-woman show. Wist impregnates her otherwise innocuous setting with meaning, only to negate it by favoring the camera–a peep show window just for you.
