Russell holds a dual-major B.A. with Honors from Macalester College in Art History &amp; Studio Art and English &amp; Creative Writing with a focus in Gender Studies, and an MRes with Distinction in Art History from Goldsmiths, University of London with a focus in Visual Culture. Her academic, curatorial, and creative work focuses on gender, performance, digital selfdom, internet idolatry, and new media ritual.<\/p>\n<p>Curated exhibitions and projects include Projects 110 : Michael Armitage, organized with Thelma Golden and The Studio Museum in Harlem at MoMA (2019); Dozie Kanu : Function (2019), Chlo\u00eb Bass : Wayfinding (2019), and Radical Reading Room (2019) at The Studio Museum in Harlem; MOOD : Studio Museum Artists in Residence 2018-19 at MoMA PS1; GLITCH @ NIGHT; and a series of multimedia events exploring digital feminism and celebrating queer nightlife at ICA London (2017); and the critically acclaimed Wandering\/WILDING: Blackness on the Internet in collaboration with IMT Gallery and ICA London (2016).<\/p>\n<p>Amongst other institutional projects, Russell is currently working on organizing with Thelma Golden and The Studio Museum in Harlem Projects: Garrett Bradley, a presentation of the artist and filmmaker\u2019s multichannel video installation, \u201cAmerica\u201d (2019) forthcoming at MoMA in 2020. She is also working on the This Longing Vessel : Studio Museum Artists in Residence 2019-20 which will feature the work of E. Jane, Elliot Reed, and Naudline Pierre, to be presented at MoMA PS1 Winter 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Russell\u2019s written work, interviews, and essays have been published internationally. She is the recipient of the<a href=\"https:\/\/grants.thomafoundation.org\/previous-recipients\/legacy-russel-emerging-writer\/\"> Thoma Foundation 2019 Arts Writing Award<\/a> in Digital Art and a 2020 Rauschenberg Residency Fellow. Her first book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.versobooks.com\/books\/3668-glitch-feminism\"><em>Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto<\/em><\/a> (2020) was released last month by Verso Books.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Work Day<\/h3>\n<p><b>1. Today (Wednesday) is\u00a0a\u00a0work\u00a0session. Please attend to\u00a0check in.<\/b><br \/>\nThis Wednesday will be a work session. I would like\u00a0you all to attend,\u00a0at the very least for the first 30-<span class=\"il\">60<\/span>\u00a0minutes or so, during which time we will go around the\u00a0room sharing very brief updates. Depending how far along you find yourselves, we may break into small groups to discuss your current prototypes in detail, or we can just have quiet time to work. I will also be available to speak with you individually. If you need or want time to leave the zoom and work on your own, that will also be available after the initial check-in.<\/p>\n<p><b>2. Simplify your concepts and use the\u00a0templates.\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\nI have given you a variety of templates for a reason: to make the project of creating a networked experience doable in\u00a0a reasonable\u00a0amount of time. Several of you have proposed concepts that are extremely ambitious, and for which I have not provided any template. Unless you are very confident in your skills, I do not understand or recommend this approach. Instead, I recommend trying out all of the template projects and thinking about how you can economically adapt, alter, or modify them in an interesting way. You will have plenty enough challenges debugging communications across multiple devices.<\/p>\n<p><b>3. A gold-mine of projects is latent in the networked sensors demo.\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\nLingdong has provided you with templates (sensors-chorus, sensors-rooms) for transmitting accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass data in real time between multiple phones. To my knowledge no template of this sort has ever been provided to students before, and the possibilities for how you could use this to make engrossing experiences are immense. I highly encourage you to think about how you could use this creatively.<\/p>\n<p><b>4. Here&#8217;s a video of my patient walk-through of\u00a0the\u00a0simple telematic template code.<\/b><br \/>\nOn Monday 10\/19, I presented a patient walk-through of my simple telematic template project. Video of this (hour-long) walkthrough was recorded.
