I’ve always been interested in incorporating technology with apparel and Ying Gao has a fascinating take on it. I like the photo-luminescent dresses– I wonder if anyone has explored these concepts with fiber optics? Maybe weaving side glow fiber optics into a textile?

A lot of people see only the windmill turning- at least at first- because they only care about where the energy is going/how they use it, seldom considering the darker details (literally depicted in your project). The project runs smoothly mechanically and is very clean-cut. Great job 🙂

I’m sorry if my choice of words led to an ill-representation of my idea. I did not mean that having children is the only meaning to a woman’s life. I only meant in the sense that it adds another dimension. I’ll be more careful of wording and reviewing my drafts. Your interpretation, which is clear from my choice of words, is justified, but in no sense what I believe or wanted to say. Again, truly sorry for the error.

My interpretation stems directly from the words that you used, and my point is that you should really consider the words you use how you say things so that these kinds of miscommunications do not arise, and so that your work is not misinterpreted, especially when dealing with topical issues such as gender roles.

I liked that it looks very clean and almost minimalistic- laser cutting a cover for the motor definitely helped contribute to that. I also liked your solution of threading a string through all the steps and attaching it to the motor, I thought it was very clever. For future improvements, it might help to look into how momentum affects the rotation of the steps, and how to adjust the speeds to manipulate the steps into fanning out in the way you want.
