For our stop motion we created a scene involving an ant with ingenuity and a magnifying glass. For our robotic element, we utilized the slider and stepper motor to gradually move the camera backwards for the opening scene, while simultaneously adjusting the zoom in the attempt of recreating a Hitchcock zoom. This is a technique where the subject stays in focus during a zoom, creating a distortion in the background. Some difficulties we ran into were keeping the ant as the constant center of the zoom to create the desired effect, as well as realizing that the settings of the camera would be exported with the final movie. Overall though we are pleased with the campy, fun results and enjoyed playing with the technique.
