I&#8217;m curious about that choice, especially in the context of the essay film being a highly reflexive medium.<\/p>\n<p>I focused on three films by three directors, which I choose because they are among my favorites:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1018\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.ideate.cmu.edu\/60-461\/f2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/123-640x303.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.ideate.cmu.edu\/60-461\/f2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/123-640x303.png 640w, https:\/\/courses.ideate.cmu.edu\/60-461\/f2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/123-1024x485.png 1024w, https:\/\/courses.ideate.cmu.edu\/60-461\/f2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/123-768x364.png 768w, https:\/\/courses.ideate.cmu.edu\/60-461\/f2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/123.png 1113w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was loosely inspired by <a href=\"https:\/\/art21.org\/watch\/extended-play\/omer-fast-cnn-concatenated-short\/\">Omer Fast&#8217;s &#8220;CNN Concatenated&#8221;<\/a> and used <a href=\"https:\/\/lav.io\/2014\/06\/videogrep-automatic-supercuts-with-python\/\">Sam Lavigne&#8217;s Videogrep <\/a>\u00a0&#8211; a python-based tool that allows to automatically create supercuts, based on associated subtitles files. I also used the transcript software <em>Descript<\/em> to make sure Videogrep doesn&#8217;t miss any excerpts since I knew the amateurish subtitles files I&#8217;m using might include some glitches.<\/p>\n<p>My rule was to only use supercuts of words that appeared in all three films (not including conjunctions).
