Banner Critique Instructions (due 9am, Monday)

The banners will be hung up on the walls of the Dye Lab. Document your feedback for the banners you are assigned to (list below) following the instructions in writing.

  1. Take the time to observe the banner you are providing feedback for. Use the ladder provided in the room to take the banner off the wall CAREFULLY and examine the front, back, and edges. Please remember to hang the banner back on the wall. Consider the design, colors, materials, and overall quality of the banner.
  2. Read the statement provided by the student who created the banner. This statement explains the inspiration, concept, and techniques used to make the banner. You will need at least an hour for this exercise, 20 minutes per banner.
  3. Write about three successful elements of the banner. What do you like about it and why? Is the message clear, the composition balanced, or the execution skillful?
  4. Write about two aspects of the banner that you think could be improved or are not working for you. Why do you think these elements need improvement? Is the design too busy or too simple? Could the typography be more legible or more visually appealing? Are the colors in the color scheme complementary or distracting? Is the craftsmanship uneven or inconsistent? Is the theme conveyed clearly or does it need more context or explanation? Choose the aspects that are most relevant to the banner you are evaluating and provide specific feedback on how to improve them.
  5. Email your responses to Natalya by 9 am on Monday. Your feedback will help the students improve their work in the future.
