It has slots and eyes\/holes which allow&nbsp;every second warp thread to move up and down and create the shed. It is also used to beat the weft into place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Warp&nbsp;<\/strong>= the threads going lengthwise<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Weft&nbsp;<\/strong>= the threads woven across the warp threads<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shed&nbsp;<\/strong>= the space between the warp threads when reed is up or down<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pick&nbsp;<\/strong>= one row of weft yarn<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>DPI&nbsp;<\/strong>= dents per inch, or more commonly how many spaces (the eyes\/holes and the slots)&nbsp;in the reed are there per inch for threads<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>EPI&nbsp;<\/strong>= ends per inch <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sett&nbsp;<\/strong>= how many threads per inch (or cm). The sett is calculated by the WPI. The sett determines which reed you should use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>WPI&nbsp;<\/strong>= wraps per inch &#8211; used to calculate the sett<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>End&nbsp;<\/strong>= a warp end is one warp thread of the prepared warp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Balanced Weave&nbsp;<\/strong>= the number of warp threads per inch (cm)&nbsp;equals the number of rows of weft per inch (cm)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Beating&nbsp;<\/strong>= term used for pushing the threads into place. We use the reed to beat each row into the weaving &#8211; do not beat too hard!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pattern Stick\/Pickup Stick<\/strong>&nbsp;= tool to create a pattern by altering the way the warp and weft interlace<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shuttle&nbsp;<\/strong>= yarn is wound onto the shuttle. The shuttle carries the yarn through the weaving<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Draw-in<\/strong>&nbsp;= the narrowing of the weaving at the selvedges due to the natural shrinking of the web. Excessive draw-in is&nbsp;caused from the weft being too tight<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Selvedge&nbsp;<\/strong>= the woven edge of a fabric<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Take-up<\/strong>&nbsp;= the amount that the warp shortens in length due to the undulation caused by the weaving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BASICS<\/strong><br><a
