Sleeveless Shell

Students working with the FEMALE drafting system, must watch the following videos to draft their Sleeveless Shell:

Patternmaking + Design: Creative Darts & Seam Lines class
The Basics of Dart Manipulation, 37:02 mins
Dart Variations, 34:13 mins
Dart Wrap Up, 28:32 mins
Designing Your Wardrobe: Drafting Tops class
Sleeveless Shell, 29:54 mins
Closures, Edge Finishes and Pattern Standards, 28:28 mins

Students draft a Sleeveless Shell Working Pattern using their slopers.  The sleeveless shell will utilize front dart manipulation of students’ choice and the neckline and shoulder suggestions in the video.  The back will be drafted with a V shape opening to allow for the passage of the head (at least 24″), shoulder dart, back contouring but no waist dart.  Loop and button will be used to close up the V opening.  The Sleeveless Shell needs to be either fully lined or have facing finishing around the armhole and neck.  Students must decide on seam finishes for the side seam and the hem.  Serger finishing may only be used in seams that are not visible on the inside. Facings must have a neat finish.

Toile/Muslin.
Add 1/4″ seam allowance around the neck, 1/2″ seam allowance everywhere else, cut washed/unwashed muslin, staystitch around the neck and armhole, sew up a simple quick toile with the front made out of one panel and the back with two panels. This toile is to confirm proportions and fit. Why make a toile/muslin?

Hems!
Students in class have been given access to download a document that outlines options for hems.
