Eliza Pratt – Improvisation Inflatables
For this project, I was excited to work with a new and unfamiliar medium and surprised myself with what I was able to create. In the beginning, I was frustrated when the shapes weren’t coming together the way I wanted. I actually ended up scrapping my first iteration as it was too complex and poorly put together. After this initial endeavor, I started mapping out my cuts to help visualize how everything would converge. Once I understood how to plan out these “improvised” forms, I had a lot of fun experimenting with shape and color. Every time I inflated a new piece, I found the color palette and abnormal shape animated the form and exerted it own personality. From completing this project, I am most happy with the cleanliness of my inflatables. While the colors and shapes are what initially catch the eye, I think the extra time I took to carefully lay out tape lines and trim edges are what elevate the forms.
