The word&nbsp;<em>corduroy<\/em>&nbsp;is from&nbsp;<em>cord<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>duroy<\/em>, a coarse woollen cloth made in England in the 18th century.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Corduroy#cite_note-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;The interpretation of the word as&nbsp;<em>corde du roi<\/em>&nbsp;(from French,&nbsp;<em>the cord of the King<\/em>) is a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/False_etymology\">false etymology<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Corduroy is a material traditionally used in making&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/British_country_clothing\">British country clothing<\/a>, even though its origin lies among items worn by townspeople in industrial areas.
