We seek to represent and elicit a collection of universal emotions using the lighting panels on the Randy Pausch Memorial Bridge. The show attempts to illustrate common attitudes or actions associated with each emotion with a curation of colors and various patterns and 2-D movement.
Throughout the show, the viewer will witness and hopefully experience happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, fear, and surprise.

Warhol is one of our most famous alumni from the College of Fine Arts. This show would touch on 5 of his most famous paintings one at a time for about 3 minutes each.
For each painting, the show would showcase each painting’s color, line, form, and overall feeling/emotion. We will also be implementing different types of motion to showcase the different forms, lines, and colors in order to re-create each painting.

– One example for one of the paintings that we will implement. Each color was extracted from the painting, then was designed in Vectorworks for the visualization of the duration and the general overview of the colors. They will be written in python script, and each color would be coded accordingly to the ratio of RGB.

– None for now.

Concept: Our goal is to represent a collection of emotions onto the Pausch bridge. These colors will draw from the category of the six universal emotions proposed by renowned psychologist Dr. Paul Ekman – happiness, sadness, fear, disgust, anger, and surprise. We will draw from colors and patterns popularly used in media to represent these emotions as well as attempt to represent common attitudes or actions associated with each emotion through 2-D movement of our color selection across the bridge.
]]>1. Orientation. Fitting under a CMU theme, producing a bridge for first year orientation would include recognizable elements such as a color battle to represent House Wars or a playful sequence to represent Playfair. We could also play with the experiences of FY’s in regards to their hesitations, excitements, and discoveries and translate them into visuals onto the Pausch bridge.
2. Emotions. This theme would be very explorative and seeks to use color and pattern to represent or even elicit the emotion being translated onto the Pausch bridge. We could tackle more common emotions such as happiness and sadness, which most people would assume similar colors and patterns associated with these, or we could tackle less common emotions and challenge ourselves to express them as colors such as enouement or deja vu.
3. A day at the beach/in the mountains. This idea would be a beautiful display and would be a large focus on transitions such as if we would intend to “scan” the scene and represent a crashing blue wave onto a sandy yellow beach or watch an orange fish swim in a sparking blue lake. This would also be an opportunity to tackle weather and how to represent climate as colors and patterns such as if a thunderstorm causes mayhem in the tranquility of the mountains.
We intend to consider more technical elements of these ideas before deciding on a final idea for execution.
