Assignment 1: 3 Ideas

Amanda, Douglas, Jenny

1. Orientation. Fitting under a CMU theme, producing a bridge for first year orientation would include recognizable elements such as a color battle to represent House Wars or a playful sequence to represent Playfair. We could also play with the experiences of FY’s in regards to their hesitations, excitements, and discoveries and translate them into visuals onto the Pausch bridge.

2. Emotions. This theme would be very explorative and seeks to use color and pattern to represent or even elicit the emotion being translated onto the Pausch bridge. We could tackle more common emotions such as happiness and sadness, which most people would assume similar colors and patterns associated with these, or we could tackle less common emotions and challenge ourselves to express them as colors such as enouement or deja vu.

3. A day at the beach/in the mountains. This idea would be a beautiful display and would be a large focus on transitions such as if we would intend to “scan” the scene and represent a crashing blue wave onto a sandy yellow beach or watch an orange fish swim in a sparking blue lake. This would also be an opportunity to tackle weather and how to represent climate as colors and patterns such as if a thunderstorm causes mayhem in the tranquility of the mountains.

We intend to consider more technical elements of these ideas before deciding on a final idea for execution.
