During the visit to the Kindergarten room, the children were going around to different stations to complete an activity. One of the activities that seemed to create a lot of excitement for the children was a magnet maze, where they tried steered a magnet through a maze on one side of a paper using a wand on the other side.
The children’s actions here were driven as much by industry as they were by autonomy. Not only was this activity a great way of demonstrating the phenomenon of magnetism but it also allowed the children to have control over the phenomenon and its intricacies. One kid even shook his wand back and forth beneath the paper to see if he could outpace the magnet on the other side and get it to unstick. After enough play, the children were rewarded for their industry and were very excited to show the adults running the activities circuit that they finished the maze, with one kid in particular jumping up and down and shaking his paper, giddy with excitement.
