    2. Brief introduction to laser-cutting design.

    3. Brief show-and-tell of materials and components.

    4. Time permitting: brief introduction to SolidWorks CAD design.

New Assignments

  1. Due Wed Sep 4: Project: Precedent Research. Please submit your result as a Google doc or slideshow in the Assignment 1 Shared Folder prior to class.

  2. Before the next class, please arrange access to SolidWorks 2024 (the version now in the clusters). Here are several options:

    1. via https://virtual.andrew.cmu.edu/ (downloading VMware Horizon Client recommended)

    2. by installing on your personal Windows laptop (notes)

    3. by installing in a compatible Windows virtual machine on your personal computer

  3. Please complete the CKS Fall 2024 Skill Survey if you haven’t already. This should just take a few minutes.

  4. Please complete laser-cutter training as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Note that we will soon have assignments requiring access, and you are responsible for ensuring your qualification.

    Please note: we have three brand-new Epilog laser cutters this Fall, and we are still in the process of updating documentation and procedures.
