Exercise: Project Pitch¶
Please choose one idea to propose as a final project. It may be the idea you’ve been individually developing or a different one. Please choose an idea which you believe is within the scope of the course resources and your ambitions. This isn’t a committment, and not all ideas will be further developed. After these pitches we will form project pairs and will be developing a joint project proposal with your new partner.
Each person will have five minutes of class time to pitch the idea and answer questions. Please illustrate your idea as a single slide posted to the Google Shared Drive.
Please be sure to address the course themes specifically:
What is the expressive mobility of your concept?
How does the kinetic performance convey expression and intent?
Where, how, when, for whom will it perform?
What is the experience of the viewer?
What is your artistic inquiry?
Please note: a form and movement isn’t enough. You need to be able to explain not just how but why: what is the essential artistic question you are actually posing by making the machine?
Learning Objectives¶
Developing an artistic concept for a robotic kinetic sculpture performance.
Visualizing a kinetic visual representation of an artistic concept.
Refining the essential artistic question via abstraction and resolution.
Scaling an idea to match technical constraints and resolving it within limitations.
Deliverables¶
A single slide capturing the essence of your idea in graphic form.
In-class presentation to pitch the idea to your peers and answer questions.
