We wanted to simply the motion of the motor but still have a large effect of the actual textile that would be affected. We decided to take advantage of using string to be able to move the muslin. It was a useful was to be able to make a small pulley system to be able to dip the textile into the container, which would be dye once we can make or get some. So when the motor is ignited by silence then it would move the muslin into the thus shifting the color, and over time, dyeing the fabric into a running upstream of color.
