Exercise: Suspension Report

As an epilog to the Exercise: Suspension Artifact assignment I would like each group to document their result and write a brief reflection on the process. Please collaborate with your group partners to write one report per group.

Please be sure to include a video of one full cycle of the performance. It is admittedly a challenge to record through the reflective glass, but please experiment with camera placement to get the cleanest possible result. For this exercise hand-held phone video is acceptable but please minimize camera motion. The preferred approach is to use a tripod or other support to ensure a completely motionless camera.

Please also include several still photographs which capture the essence of the lighted form in motion.

For the text, please explain the final intent, notable successes, and informative failures in at most two paragraphs. Please remember that our principal questions center on movement, so please consider the following:

  1. What was the most surprising motion?

  2. What different gestures does the form create?

  3. How did your movement concept change during your experiments?

  4. What was the most surprising discovery of the suspension actuation?

Deliverables

Each group should please:

  1. upload a final Python show script to the Shared Drive folder

  2. upload a video

  3. post a brief Google Doc to the shared folder with the following:

  • discussion text

  • several photos

  • link to the video

I would like to post these videos to the public KF-S24 Project Gallery site. If you wish your video to remain private to the class, please note this in your writeup. By default I will post them without individual attribution, but please also indicate if there is a specific attribution you prefer.
