How it works

Kids attach elastic strings of different length to the pegs spaced different distances apart. They can experiment how this results in different tensions and pluck the strings to see how that results in sounds of different pitches.

What kids learn

Kids learn that stretching strings a greater amount results in greater tension, which then results in higher frequencies of sound.

Age group

This toy is designed for kids aged 5 and up as the strings and pegs may pose as a choking hazard for younger children. The strings may also be difficult for younger kids to stretch to the desired length.

Manufacturing

The main body of the guitar can be made of plastic. The pegs can be plastic screws that screw through a bolt on the end of each string and into the body of the guitar. The string itself should be made of a thick elastic that stretches easily but is hard to snap.
