The color mug is a toy designed to change colors based on the temperature of the liquid inside the mug. The mug has an attached wind up aspect which spins a set of fans inside the mug to stir up the chemical to warm the mug up.
The toy is based on color changing spoons/cups found in cereal boxes. The toys usually change color when touched to cold or hot milk and are typically very entertaining to eat with. My inspiration for the toy also originates from being a ChemE. The chemicals used in the reaction with the combination of a mechanical aspect make a fun toy.
The child can interact with this toy by putting various fluids in it to see how the color of the mug is affected. In addition this toy teaches children about how chemical reactions can cause physical or chemical change.
This mug would be made out of plastic and the fan inside to stir the chemicals would also be made as such. Toxicity of the chemicals would need to be considered but for the most part this toy isn’t exactly dangerous and would cater to children over the age of 6.
