Spring Loaded Launcher/Catcher
More about how it works:
- I got the idea for this toy from a Kendama that I play with a bunch. With a Kendama, the ball is attached to a string and you have to catch the ball on the various cups or spike. I wanted to create a toy that allowed a ball to fly without restriction.
- A child would interact with the toy by loading the ball into the cup, torquing it back while hooking it to the baseboard, then flipping the switch to release ball and have it fly to the next cup.
- I would make most of the parts out of a relatively durable wood or thick plastic to ensure the base of the toy wouldn’t move around much when the springs released. In terms of safety, the flight of the ball should be relatively constrained making it very hard to hit someone in the face with the ball. However, since the ball is a separate part, you do run the risk of losing the piece or having a small child accidentally swallow it.
