Concept 1: Fastener Tiles
This concept was inspired by the entertainment I derived as a child from putting together simple things like buttons and zippers. It consists of several stiff fabric tiles that contain several types of fasteners on them like buttons, zippers, snaps, buckles, and velcro. Three simple versions are shown above.
A child would interact with the toy by putting together the tiles using the fastening mechanisms, developing fine motor control and building 3D shapes from 2D pieces.
The tiles would likely be be made out of a stiff, durable fabric that can be easily sewn on to. The fasteners themselves would likely be made out of hard plastic and metal. The pieces would have to be large for safety reasons, since this toy would be primarily for small children.
