Light-up Legos [Jacob Gobbo]

Light-up Legos

  • The toy is a combination of building with legos and circuits. Each piece is similar to a typical lego but it has terminals at the top and bottom. There is an LED inside each brick and the brick has markings to indicate the bias in the LEDs. The base is square with two long rows, one at a positive voltage and the other at ground.
  • The child will first have to connect the base to a power source, maybe a battery pack, maybe connect to a wall socket. Then they can build with the bricks and experiment to understand what will turn on the LEDs and what won’t .
  • the bricks would be printed/injection molded in two parts so the LED and circuit could be placed inside and then covered. A book would be provided to talk about electricity safety and also the basics of circuits.  Not too much information about circuits would be given since the children are expected to learn by experimenting.
