Idea #3: Musical Shapes

poorly drawn box with shape outlines on it along with the shapes that fit inside those holes

Musical shapes teaches kids about the fundamentals of basic geometric shapes as well as audio pattern matching and colors.

  • The underlying principle for this idea is getting kids exposed to geometric shapes and their basic properties.  The box will play a series of notes that corresponds to a specific shape.  For example, it might go “beep, beep, beep” and that corresponds to a triangle because 3 beeps for 3 sides.
  • It would be constructed mostly out of plastic (especially the little shapes so the child can gnaw on them without harm–also big enough so they can’t choke) and maybe wood for the base of the whole box.  Hopefully there would also be lights around each shape outline to visually notify the child if they got it right.
