Intro to Center of Gravity & Moments

Moment: A moment is a rotation caused by a force

• A force applied at a distance from a point of rotation will cause a moment to occur about that point

 

If the people on both ends weigh the same, there is no moment → there is no rotation in the seesaw	If the person on the yellow weighs more than the person in the green and white so there is a moment → the seesaw will rotate towards the heavier side because there is a greater force

 

Center of Gravity: the center of gravity is the spot on an object where it balances

 

• An object naturally spins around it center of gravity
