It all began with a dream.

We thought it would be interesting to create a marionette using the servo motors available to us.

With this idea in mind, we eventually decided to make a sort of spider, which eventually evolved into a fpider. Although making a believable set of spider legs is difficult, we decided that it would be a worthy challenge.

Using custom-cut parts, we assembled a sled that held six servo motors. The servo’s would actuate the legs (a simple piece armature wire with a joint), and a puppeteer would slide the slide along a track to create the illusion that the legs were pushing the spider along.
