Final Project Option 1
Alter Ego Headdress

What or who is your analog avatar? For this option, you are invited to create a soft and augmented expression of one’s alternate persona, a state of being. This persona may have already been actualized in the past or is just ready to hatch into this world. You are NOT making a halloween costume. The pole of influence for halloween is popular culture at large and recognition of the visual trope is key. This assignment is much more about starting from an interior place without the need for the defined recognition.

Requirements:

  1. make something you would like to keep and not put into trash
  2. the headdress must activate any or all areas between shoulders and top of your head
  3. must use techniques learned in class throughout the semester
  4. documentation of research and idea development posted on pinterest
  5. hot glue may not be used
  6. you must document and contextualize your creation in photo or video format and post on pinterest

  2. must use techniques learned in class throughout the semester

  4. document and contextualize your creation in photo or video format; post on pinterest
  5. hot glue may not be used

Final Project Option 3
Animal Head Contextualized, Altered

Use the patterns from the book “Sewn Animal Heads” to make a learning sample animal head (instructions, templates and videos are below). This will be the learning sample; the making of this will improve your sewing and pattern assembly skills. After making the learning sample, create a contextualized and/or altered animal head. For this final project, I want something more than a copy of an animal head from the book. The animal head can be a part of something larger, can make a statement or be altered. Use any skills you have learned in class.

Learning Sample Instructions:

  1. print animal head template document and cut out (templates have already been sized to 200%); tape sections that were too big to fit on one page
  2. read general instructions
  3. read individual animal head construction instructions BEFORE BEGINNING, paying particular attention to CUTTING GUIDES and KEY
  4. follow along my videos while working on animal heads (keep videos on mute because I did not edit sound)
  5. use beeswax to strengthen the thread in your tool kits; this will also prevent it from twisting
  6. interfacing, batting, water based markers, beeswax, carbon paper and any specialty tool/material necessary to complete the animal heads will be in the Sewing Lab in a box labeled ANIMAL HEADS; foam board to be used inside BASE will be located near the ANIMAL HEAD box
  7. watch ladder stitch (2 min.) before begging to work on BASE

work alongside me:
bear
unicorn/horse
piggie
giraffe

everyone MUST read these general instructions
you will find construction instructions for each animal head in this folder
you will find templates for each animal head in this folder (templates have already been sized to 200%)
