Scott is a third year student studying Sound Design in the School of Drama. To him, sound is a phenomenon that is absolutely central to the subconscious and conscious experience of both storytelling and memory. Having done percussion for 13 years, Scott enjoys being able to work with rhythm in his work. Beyond his major, you might find Scott designing the sound for productions such as Lunar Gala, CMU’s largest showcase. In his free time, Scott enjoys going fast—this includes skiing, cycling, and waterskiing.

Physical computing is a new experience for Scott—he has little prior experience with robotics. However, he is extremely interested in understanding the intersectionality of robotics and people. As he considers the audience when designing sound, he is interested in how robots can interact with their audiences. Additionally, he is more focused on learning new modes of thinking more than actually being able to use these skills in his future.

In this course, he hopes to:

  1. Try something new. This basically entails that he will stick through a class completely separate from his major.
  2. Understand how code can lead to some action. Working with drama, it is easy to see how the process leads to the final product. However, code is one level deeper in abstraction.
  3. Trial and destruction. Scott is interested in seeing the technical constraints when working with different people such as children.
