At the Children’s School, the Kindergarteners were engaged in a wide variety of activities including painting, making crafts, and completing a blocks and numbers game. Using things like their old paintings/previous work, the Children’s School really has them engage and build upon things that they have done. However, what activities really captured their interest most of the time were ones with more action/activity with tangible results or rewards that they could show off to their peers and their teachers. The Color Challenge that the Kindergarteners did was very interesting, basically given a picture and some colored blocks, they were to make the same image. This was an activity that required some more thinking and that area of the room was appropriately quieter and less rowdy. It held the kid’s attentions quite well, although a few didn’t really seem to want to sit there in one place for too long. However, in accordance with the rest of the activities and their age group, once they completed the challenge, they ran around holding their completed piece trying to show anyone that would listen what they had accomplished. They were able to connect with ones who had completed the exact same image/puzzle, and between them it was a sort of competition “I did it first!” “I did it faster”.  Although this age group is a little older, there were still some elements of autonomy and initiative when they told each other things like “Look look this is how you do it”. It’s clear that this age group loves interaction with their friends and showing off whatever feats they have accomplished.
