Inspired by the opening to Game of Thrones, we wanted to recreate a smaller scale version of a pop-up castle operated by gears. Starting with a simple servo motor and gears laser cut from basswood, we first connected the servo to a dowel, to cause the first gear to rotate. Obviously a small servo will not be capable of rotating anything more than a few gears. So a larger, more powerful servo will be needed to make the castle move up successfully. The castle movement in the above video required some hand movement to help it budge as it easily got caught on the corner of each fold.
Parts to Reconfigure:
-servo motor, connection of gears to castle, castle corners and smoothness of elevation.
-The arduino script currently run on 180 degree rotations. Look to manipulate the degree and break between each rotation to make elevation consistent.
