Our project idea was inspired by Zimoun’s work and the objective of a creating a personal experience unique to whoever interacts with our piece.

Our first goal was to create a personal space for the audience. We believe that we can achieve this by building a standing enclosure with a single entrance for the space to be experienced by one person at a time. Once inside, the user experiences a space seeming to be larger on the inside than it appears on the outside. We will employ mirrors positioned at different angles to create this depth of space. Lining the inside of the enclosure will be “clouds” made from tissue paper with different colored lights livening the space from behind, or through, the paper. We wanted our space to have a day dreamy and calming feel, so the lights will be pastel and lighter colors.

To create a personal experience for the user, the mood and depth of the space with change in response to the user’s heart rate. We will monitor the heart rate with a handheld controller. As heart rate slows down, the movement in the space will slow and create a calming ambiance, as heart rate speeds up, the room will move more frantically to reflect the user’s own feelings. Motors will move the “clouds” to mimic dynamic movement.

The overall goal of our project is to create unique experiences. Ideally, every user will interact with the space in their own way, thereby creating their own unique experience.
