The ‘inForm’ is a well-known invention by the MIT Media Lab. It is machine with a moving surface that three-dimensionally changes shape based on the user’s interaction with the machine. It allows the user to interact in a remote situation and the machine reflects the movement of the user or a moving object.

As shown in the video, inForm works as a performance partner of the human operator. It is controlled by the human operator and mimics the movement, which shows a balance in the autonomy of the performance.

As a machine with moving part and human control, the invention is already hybrid kinetic sculpture. But, it may not be apparent on how the invention is an artwork. Since the potential of how the human performer or the controller use the machine is not limited, this invention could definitely be used as a form of expression and artwork.
