When initially brainstorming for this project, I was inspired by the bright blue fur fabric stored in the scrap bin and wished to make a blue fuzzy monster. I sewed the inside of the monster to be sewn with a light pink fabric that had a “spine” made of five small dowels and three rows of ribs made of three dowels, as well as a row of cordage for the monster to hang from a tree. However, after I finished stitching the creature, I discovered that 1) I probably should have sewn a shape that wasn’t a square for the monster 2) when the monster was hanging from the cordage the inside fleshy skin (as intended) was looking a bit too disturbing to be engaging. Thus, I had to improvise and actuated the monster with the cordage while the ribs subtly changed the way the monster raised and lowered. Ultimately, I’m not sure how successful of an experiment this was however, and I think this is in part that the blue fabric was much heavier than I realized (and thus muffled the effect of the ribs).
