When exploring this initial moving cloth assignment, my initial goal was to actuate a fabric square with several intentional fabric folds ironed into place – specifically I had created a set of folds that would create almost a triangle or a “mouth” that would appear when a certain line was pulled. However, when trying to execute this puppetry, I found myself dissatisfied with how the whole system was looking when I tightly constrained all of the three lines needed for the actuation. Thus, I went back to the basics and attached two lines of actuation on the top of the fabric, while still using my ironed in folds as an initial state for my cloth (as seen with the central fold). After some experimentation and a complete lack of constraints, I found myself being able to repeatedly shimmy my cloth across the main support bar, which I got much amusement out of and thus became my final display.
