For this assignment, I wanted to have some sort of skeleton within the fabric to show the channel, cord, and boning manipulation while having an exoskeleton that allows the user to manipulate the movements from within. When I experimented with hand puppetry, it was easier to see patterns forming on the surface of the fabric and that was what I had intended to do with the different sized tubes. However, I was moving all three bigger tubes along and against the other for that effect. When I tried to mimic this action on capstan, it did play to my expectations. Because I only had four areas of attachment, I attached the lines to the corners of the piece. Because I was only able to use a four tendon attachment, the manipulation of the fabric wasn’t as I intended, but it made the same patterns and created a similar form as to my puppetry version. Also although I made more horizontal movement by hand and more vertical movement through capstan, the resulting manipulations were similar.
