Project Statement:

“Jackpot of Life” is a slot machine that aims to explore how one’s life turns out is largely dependent on the circumstances of your birth. While the hand one is dealt is completely random, this machine allows one to rig it. Depending on the magnetic values measured by a compass, the wheel will land on different results. After having all three wheels land on the various elements of one’s birth: birth location, how rich one’s family is and their education level, a thermal printer will print out a receipt, which lists out their ultimate outcome.

Work in Progress:

Electronically, I’ve set up the compass and one button and stepper motor wheel. The code works such that while I press the button, it will spin and read the compass data. As soon as you let go, it will stop spinning on the position calculated based off of the compass data. The “stop spinning on a particular location” is a bit wonky, but it does work. I’ve also 3D printed one wheel and the entire box except for the back.

Things to Do:

I still need to 3D print two of the other wheels and the back of the slot machine. I also need to hook up the other stepper motors (already have done the buttons). I also need to hook up the thermal printer. I know what to do, but I don’t have any printer paper for it. I’ve made orders for said paper and sticker paper (to decorate the slot machine) already.

Things I Want to Do:

I want to hook up LEDs and speakers so that it is even more fun and reminiscent of a slot machine.
