Improvisation Inflatables – Molly
For this assignment, I wanted to start off with a basic shape, just so I would get the feel of working with the materials. I decided to make a triangular pyramid.
For my next shape, I wanted to do something a little more unusual. I created a long pipe and then added a swirl to the end. Somewhere along the way I messed up and must’ve closed off the tube somewhere because it wouldn’t inflate all the way. I added a second straw to the other end and blew into them both and it seemed to work better.
I decided to base my next shape on a familiar shape. I chose a turtle. It was pretty easy to construct and gave me some more practice with working with curves.
My final two shapes were similar to each other. I built the first one based off a kind of football pattern and realized I liked the look that the spikes had to them. I appreciated the dangerous feeling this soft object had.
After creating spikes, I wanted to keep doing so. For my final piece I made a cube that had spikes coming out of each side. I wasn’t as much of a fan of this one as I was of the earlier one because it didn’t give the same sense of danger that the other one had. I believe it had something to do with the colors I chose and the sizes of the cones.
