Auto-Chaperone (a.k.a. Leave room for Jesus)

Everybody who has ever been to a middle school dance knows the rules on spacing during the obligatory slow dance. This piece enforces the mandatory spacing by quickly creating a barrier between the dancers. The fabric has a cardboard curling flexure sewn into it. To redirect the tendon, I used a short piece of poly tubing that is also sewn into the fabric for strength. The addition of fabric around the flexure adds robustness to the hinges, but more importantly it adds volume to the separator, without weighing it down. Creating a properly sized pocket for the flexure was a challenge, mostly due to my sewing abilities, but after one failed attempt, and many pins, I was able to sew the seam in the correct location.
