For this assignment, I wanted to explore the high-five as my movement. Typically a high-five is used to express a greeting, congratulations, or celebration and so I wanted to counter the excitement encapsulated in such a simple act with a large non-human gesture. I would argue we associate the closing or shrinking of something to be a negative movement, one that usually is connected to fear, sadness, or being shy. In my device, going in for the high-five relates to the closing of my winged system which relays that negative emotion. Maybe a device as such can be practically used to express one’s inner emotions, exploring how human action may not reflect human feelings.
