This man created gesture controlled, wrist mounted flamethrowers. He was inspired by the Avatar series to mimic the firebending seen on the show, and he’s done quite a good job of it.  He used an Arduino Pro mini and an accelerometer to measure the acceleration. It then triggered a solenoid value to open and release compressed butane which was ignited using a modified arc lighter. It is the most respected project on the hub with good reason: it looks so cool.

Although the fire effect is beautiful, the gadget itself is not. its help together with duct tape and hot glue. it is also all mounted to a flammable board and the hand brackets do not seem too sturdy or ergonomic. The creator mentioned being rushed on these parts of the project so there is some room for improvement.
