Push/Pull pt.2 – Holly, Tyler
Push/Pull Pt.2 (Holly+Tyler)
For our Push/pull part two project, we decided to go forward with one of each of our part 1 projects, Holly’s “constricting pattern” and Tyler’s “duck shape” to create multiple ‘duck heads’ sprouting out from a tube-like constriction, which ended up shaping like baby birds hatching out of a giant egg, or a nest. We proceeded by creating sixteen cone-shaped tubes, fifteen of which has heads attached to them and one of which connected to an active air source. Through an all-class inclusive critique, we were able to come across ideas that the sharp and rather smooth and bold texture of the inflatable brings forward an ‘attacking or furious’ feeling, in addition to the trembling and bobbling of the heads making the inflatable seem like baby birds fighting over food that is about to be brought to them. During our creation process, we also recognized a somewhat different feeling during the deflation process, making each and every one of the neck/heads fall like dying birds, eventually making the fully deflated piece a stack of dead birds, so we proceeded to include the deflation process as a prat of our demonstration, too.
