Doppelgänger – Kat Hua
For my doppelgänger project, I decided to recreate a bruised banana figurine I have created by Instagram artist @flabjacks. Flabjack has been one of my favorite artists for creating unique and also at times grotesque characters that are always all tied together with her iconic character face with two large circular eyes and a pair of thick lips in the between. I thought it would be fun to have a plushy version of my mini bruised banana figurine.
I struggled getting the dimensions right because I had to scale my doppelganger to be several times larger given that the figurine was only about the size of my palm. I ran into some trouble when removing the masking tape from the figurine because some of the pieces were so small. I wanted to be able to recreate the subtle curves of the figurine on my doppelganger so I had to dissect the figurine into many different pieces. It took a lot of patience to make sure all the pieces fit right where it was supposed to fit. One thing that I wish could have gone better is that I wish my doppelganger’s arms popped out more and that the butt cheeks were more noticeably round and plump. I also had a lot of trouble connect the legs to the body because the measurements weren’t fitting together. I also painted on the black, bruised spots of the banana and the face as well because those parts were too small to sew on. However, overall I’m pretty satisfied with how my doppelganger came out.
